CLUB NOTES 2018

Dec 24 2018

The Christmas Draw in association with the Palmerstown House took place on Sunday night. Thanks to all who sold and bought tickets. The prize winners are listed on our FaceBook page.

 

In conjunction with the Paul Hegarty charity game, our annual Christmas Walk will take place on Saturday 29 December in Glenaulin Park at 12.30pm. The walk will be followed by the Battle of the Giants at 1pm featuring The Golden Oldies v The Pretenders, and an exhibition ladies football match involving the Gaelic4Mothers. All are welcome with proceeds going to cancer research.

 

Congratulations to Sadhbh Duffy on her selection for the Premier Dublin Star Team. This is in recognition of her contribution throughout 2018 at both club and county level. The team will play an Intermediate Senior Team at 12 noon on Thursday 27 December in Parnells GAA, Coolock. Entry to the game is free but Dublin Camogie will take a collection for two charities – St Michael’s House and St Francis Hospice.

 

Congratulations also to Ellen Dunphy on her selection for the Dublin minor camogie team.

Our appreciation event for club mentor and Lip Sync participants in the Palmerstown House on Friday night was a great success. Thank you all who came along.

 

Hard luck to the minor camogie team who lost out to Commercials in their semi-final on Sunday. Well done nonetheless on a great effort all season.

 

 

 

The hurling and camogie skills sessions are finished now for this year. The U11 and U12 girls had their Christmas outings over the weekend with a great time had by all.

We had Lip Sync on Friday night with a huge crowd supporting the acts. Well done to everyone especially the participants who provided brilliant entertainment and put on a great show.

 

A special mention for the Fundraising Committee, Gill Pickett and Eileen Maguire who did so much to put it all together. There were many others too, and thank you all. Thanks also to our sponsors and everyone who supported the event and made it such a success.

Little action on the playing front at the moment. No juvenile matches but a few teams are continuing to train. Our minor camogie team played Thomas Davis on Sunday morning and won by two points. They will play a Shield semi-final next weekend.

 

It is mainly Christmas party time now. The Academy had theirs in the Clubhouse on Saturday, while the U11 girls finished off 2018 with a player and parent spin.

Pride of place this weekend goes to our senior footballers with a brilliant two point win over Fingal Ravens in their relegation play-off on Sunday morning. It was a great game which saw many fine performances as Pats staged a thrilling come-back in the second half.

 

On behalf of everyone in the club, well done to the players and managers. Well done also and thank you to the fantastic support on the side-lines. The huge crowd made for a great atmosphere in Glenaulin and an occasion to remember.

 

 

 

 

 

Hard luck to the minor camogie team who fought hard and never gave up in their match. Their next game is away to Thomas Davis on Sunday. All support welcome.

We had a well-attended Annual General Meeting on Thursday evening. Officers elected for next year are Paul Murphy, Chairman; James Daly, Vice Chairman; John Maguire, Treasurer; and Gerry McDonagh, Secretary. The Chairman thanked everyone for their hard work during the year, a lot has been achieved, and working together we will continue to build the club in the year ahead.

Our U15s were unfortunate to lose out to Lucan Sarsfields in a tightly fought battle, while our minors went down to Raheny in their semi-final. Well done nonetheless to all teams, players, and mentors for a great effort all season.

 

The senior footballers relegation play-off against Fingal Ravens is fixed for next Sunday, 25 November, at 11am in Glenaulin Park. We would ask all club members and teams to make a special effort to come along and support the lads in this vital match.

The junior camogie team were knocked out of the championship in the shield semi-final. However, a great year was put in by all the girls on this new team, and well done everyone.

New lights were installed on the Astro pitch during the week. This is the first step in a significant upgrade of facilities for the club and wider community.

Man of the match was Colm Egan. Disappointment however for our senior hurlers who now face a relegation play off.

 

There were great performances from all of our juvenile teams including the U11 girls with Cerys Smelly and Anna Deegan girls of the game. Great play too from the U12 Ladies footballers with Lucy Brunt girl of the game. The U9 and U11 boys were equally brilliant on Saturday morning. Great performances too in the Westmanstown blitz for the U9s with all matches won, and man of the match awards for Liam and Tom. Disappointment for the U14 camogie team against St Judes in their semi-final but well done on a brilliant effort.

 

Hard to luck to the junior footballers going down to Lusk in their semi-final. Disappointment too for the minor hurlers, Western Gaels (an amalgamation with St Mark’s), in their semi-final against Na Fianna. Much credit to this new team however for a great season and well done to the players and managers.

 

The club have entered an U21 football team into the championship. The U 15 hurlers play their semi-final next Sunday at home to Lucan Sarsfields at 11.30am.

Disappointment for our senior footballers going down to Fingal Ravens on Saturday evening. Better luck for our junior hurlers however with a one point win over Clontarf which leaves them second in the league and through to a promotion play off.

 

The junior footballers play next Sunday in the championship semi-final in Lusk. We wish them all the very best, and all support welcome.

Preparations are well under way for our Lip Sync fundraiser to be held on 30 November in Westmanstown. Several teams are now signed up. Our next registration night is on Wednesday 3rd October in the Palmerstown House at 8pm.

Hard luck to our senior footballers who lost out narrowly to Whitehall Colmcille in the league. Well done to the junior footballers however who are through to the semi-finals of the championship. Well done also to all our minor and juvenile teams with many fine performances and good results this weekend.

The U7 girls and their parents took part in the second phase of our HURL WITH ME program on Saturday morning. Well done to the mentors Pat and Denise Mullins and the parents who are actively coaching the girls. The U9 girls enjoyed a great evening at the circus during the week.

 

A special mention for our young referees who do such a fine job each weekend. Important for everyone to bear in mind how young they are, and to encourage and support them at all times.

A busy weekend for many of our teams in league and championship. The junior hurlers had a fine win over Clontarf. The U16 footballers had a one point win over Clan na Gael Fontenoy, while the U15 hurlers won against Castleknock. A great championship win too for the minor footballers. Our juvenile teams were all in action again over the weekend. A special mention for the U11 footballers, and all the girls playing camogie in Glenaulin on Sunday morning. Great to see so many involved.

Well done to the senior hurlers and team management on their brilliant win in the championship over Kilmacud Crokes on Saturday evening. It was a hard fought battle and great to see so many supporters on the sideline in Glenaulin.

 

Earlier in the week, our senior camogie team won their second championship match against Ballyboden. Our junior hurlers also won.

 

Next up are the senior footballers who play Round Towers in the football championship this Saturday evening, 15 September, at 5pm. We wish them the best of luck. Great if everyone could come out and support them.

 

Our Golf classic is taking place this Friday 14 September in the Hermitage. All support appreciated.

 

Our juvenile teams, boys and girls, were in action during and over the weekend with many fine performances. Ella Sliney and Lara Pickett picked up girls of the game awards against Round Towers Lusk. Our 12 Ladies had a great win over Man O War.

 

                                         Our U15 hurlers beat Faughs in the Shield on Sunday morning and are now through to the semi-finals of the                                                         competition, where they will play Lucan. Our U9, 10, and 11s all played brilliantly in their games.

 

                                         Well done to Rachel Walsh who captained the Dublin U14 Camogie team in their blitz on Saturday.

Well done to our senior footballers on a great win over Raheny during the week. It was a hard fought battle and the result was richly deserved.

 

A great win too for our senior hurlers over Fingallians on Sunday morning, and earlier in the week for the minor hurlers against Kilmacud Crokes. The minors are now joint top of their league.

Plenty of action on and off the field with the U7s playing their first hurling game against local rivals, Liffey Gaels. The U10s put in a great performance against St Anne’s with Jayden and Kyle getting the man of the match awards.

 

After a hard fought win over Fingallians, the U12s had a great day out with a trip to the Viking Splash, while the Academy had a party in the clubhouse on Saturday morning.

 

 

Well done to our senior footballers who had a fine win over O’Tooles during the week. This was their third win in a row. Our senior hurlers went down to Kevins on Saturday evening.

 

A great win too for the senior camogie 7 team on Tuesday as they finished their league. A super day on Friday with the club well represented on the Dublin Schools camogie team. Aoibheann O’Connor, Zoe Pickett, Molly Henry and Tara Docherty all starred in a comprehensive win over Antrim in the 84th Belfast Friendship Games. The team was managed by our own Denise Mullins and Ashling Cox.

 

A Mid-Summer Concert in aid of the Palmerstown Parish Centre will be held in St Philomena’s Church on Thursday 21st June at 8pm. All support welcome.

Thank you to all who came to our Town Hall meeting on Thursday night to discuss the development of the club’s strategic plan. It was much appreciated.

 

A lot of matches during the week, and great to see so many people out enjoying themselves in Glenaulin Park. The numbers of young people playing hurling, football and camogie indicates a very bright future at all levels.

 

Well done to our senior 7 camogie team on their win. Their next game is on Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. Hard luck to our senior hurlers who came up against a strong Thomas Davis side in the league. Our junior hurlers had a good win however. The U15s had a one point win over Confey of Kildare. They also had great time kayaking at the Tall Ships on Sunday.

Our next Town Hall meeting towards developing a strategic plan will be held in the Clubhouse on Thursday next, 31 May at 8pm. This is an open invitation to all club members and interested parties within the community. All are welcome.

Well done to our U11 girls who played a very tough camogie match against St Judes. A special mention for the two girls of the game – Evelyn Jith and Calia Tracey. Our U7 boys put in a great performance when playing their first competitive match against Na Gael Óga.

 

Our U14 camogie team also had a great win over Na Fianna. They had already beaten Setanta earlier in the week.

Plenty of action on the playing fields this weekend. Our minor footballers had a brilliant win over a strong Cuala side on Sunday morning. Well done everyone.

 

Our U16 footballers also had a good win over Cuala, while the U15s played St Catherines twice during the week, winning the hurling and drawing in football.

 

Well done to the U9 boys who hurled so well in their match, Emma Clarke on her U12 football girl of the game, Joel and Rory of the U10s on their hurling man of the match awards, and to our U14 camogie team against Kilmacud Crokes. A special mention to Jamie Leonard who did a great job refereeing his first match.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Town Hall meeting on Tuesday night. We had a great turn out, and arrangements for a follow up meeting will be confirmed shortly.

Our minor hurlers, Western Gaels, had a fine win over Round Towers on Sunday morning. Good wins too for the U12 and U15 footballers. Similarly, our U10s with special mention for the players of the game, Tom Kamara and Rory Clarke. The U11s put in a great performance in their blitz on Saturday morning.

 

A good win too for our senior camogie team over Lucan Sarsfields showing great team spirit and commitment throughout.

Well done to all our juvenile teams over the weekend. The U12 ladies took on St Finians of Swords. Players of the game were Eva Barton and Aoibhinn O’Connor. The U10s played two great hurling games against St Enda’s on Saturday morning. The U11s put in a great performance against Clontarf to win handsomely. Well done to Aidan, Dean, Ciaran, Daragh and Alex. The U15s had an equally impressive win over Castleknock.

Another busy weekend on the playing front. Well done to our Camogie Féile team on getting to the semi-final on Saturday. The girls put in a great effort and can be very proud of themselves.

 

The senior Camogie team had a good win over Round Towers during the week. Unfortunately, our senior and junior footballers both lost out in the championship, while the U15s lost in the Shield quarter-final to Counsel Gaels despite a battling performance.

 

A great win on Sunday however for our minor hurling amalgamated team, Western Gaels, in their first league match over Lucan Sarsfields. Well done also to the U10 boys on a great performance against St John’s, Ballinteer. A special mention to Liam Blair and Tanya Veeramalay. Our U11 girls football were outstanding against a strong Skerries side. Girls of the game were Katie Kavanagh and Jodie McCarthy.

 

Next weekend, our U14s play in the football Féile. We wish them all the very best and hope they have a successful weekend.

Registrations for Lip Sync will be taken on Thursday evening at 8pm in the Clubhouse for anyone who wants to get involved. As this will be the club’s biggest fundraiser this year, all teams are asked to put at least one act forward. Your support is needed.

 

A good win for our senior hurlers on Saturday evening over Naomh Barróg. Great to see so much support on the sidelines.

 

Hard luck to our U14 Féile hurlers who made the semi-final and were unlucky to lose out to eventual winners, Beann Éadair. They will have another go in the football in a few weeks time.

 

 

Our senior footballers play Fingal Ravens in the championship on Tuesday evening at 7pm. The game will be played in St Margarets. They will also play Fingallians on Saturday evening in Rolestown at 6pm. All support welcome.

 

The U15s play a Shield quarter-final against local rivals, Counsel Gaels, on Sunday morning in Glenaulin at 11.30am.

 

The Senior 7 Camógie match had their first league game away to Faughs in windy conditions during the week. Despite some hard battling and impressive passages of play, they lost out narrowly. Their next match is away to Round Towers on Tuesday evening at 7pm.

The U11s had a “bring your parents to training” on Sunday. Great fun was had by all. In the match, parents vs U11 girls, the U11s came out victorious on 6 points to 3 score-line.

 

The U9 boys had a great win in hurling over St Kevins on Saturday. Several brilliant performances, and well done all. The U9s played a camogie blitz in Round Towers with the keepers making some brilliant saves. A great turnout for the U10s too with man of the match awards going to Morgan and Eamonn. The U12s did themselves proud with a fine win over Castleknock

Hard luck to our senior hurlers in the first round of the championship. A super win for our junior hurlers however with a five point win.

 

Well done to our U15 hurlers who started their league campaign with a good win over local rivals, Lucan. The U15 footballers play Round Towers in the first round of the championship on Sunday at 11.30am in Glenaulin. All support welcome in what promises to be a closely contested match.

 

The U12 boys had a brilliant win against O’Tooles, with Seamus Whelan fantastic in goal. Congratulations to Rayan and Eavan on their well deserved U10 man of the match awards

 

Our junior camogie match was postponed last Tuesday due to the weather. Next game is at home to St Anne’s this Tuesday with a 6.45pm throw-in.

 

Our U7 camogie team are continuing to train on Monday evenings from 6 -7pm with a change of venue on to the grass of Glenaulin Park this week. New players always welcome.

 

Well done to all the girls who took part in the U11 Camógie blitz on Sunday. A special mention for our two girls of the game, Caoimhe Moroney and Georgia Lee. Well done also to Isobel Daly, our girl of the game in their first ever U12’s camogie match.

Well done to our senior hurlers with a solid victory over Clontarf on Sunday morning. Our junior hurlers followed up with a last minute point to secure a win over Good Counsel.

 

It was also a very successful weekend for our juvenile teams who were all back in action over the weekend. A special mention to our U15 footballers with a great win over St Vincents, and to our chairman, Paul Murphy, who stepped in to referee the game. A new career beckons.

We had a great turn out for our juvenile presentation on Sunday afternoon.  Sam Maguire was there, and thanks also to Denis Bastick, 5 times All Ireland winner, for coming along to help with the presentations.  Well done to all our players who received their medals.  

Special thanks to Moriartys SuperValu for the goodie bags, and to Rebecca and her dancers at Kinesis.

It was a busy weekend on the playing front with nearly all our teams back in action.  Well done to our junior footballers and several juvenile teams who had solid wins over strong opposition.  Well done also to our senior camogie ladies.  Hard luck to our senior footballers who went down to Templeogue Synge Street in their first league outing.

Pride of place this weekend to Chris Mooney who refereed the Louth v Tyrone Allianz Hurling league game on Sunday.  Chris was ably assisted by club members Eoin Cullen, Brian Mooney, Thomas Lowry and Mark Ryan.

Action resumed on the playing fields with a narrow loss away for the U15s over a strong Naomh Fionnbara side on Sunday morning.

A good start to the year for our senior footballers with an 8 point win on Sunday over Blackhall Gaels in a pre-season challenge game.

St Patrick’s GAA, in partnership with Waterstown Warriors and sponsored by Supervalu Palmerstown, is hosting Operation Transformation walks in Glenaulin Park. This will run for 8 weeks to coincide with the RTE TV series. In a change to previously advertised arrangements, walks will now take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.45pm. There will be an optional weigh-in each Tuesday at 6.30pm.

 

The first walk starts tomorrow evening on Tuesday 16 January. All adults, teens and supervised children welcome.

Our new Clubhouse Co-ordination team met for the first time last week to devise a plan of action to maintain and improve our facilities. We are delighted to welcome several eager and enthusiastic club members who have brilliant ideas and oodles of energy. Best of luck to Coílin Doyle, Richie Garrigan, Cian Mullins, Ned Rushe, Andy Helbert, John Glennon and Eddie Diamond. New members most welcome on this team who will be all action off the team of play!

The St Patrick’s GAA Christmas Charity Walk took place on St Stephen’s morning in Glenaulin Park. Donations were made to the Palmerstown Old Folks and the Elizabeth McNicholas Trust.

 

The Paul Hegarty Memorial match was held on Saturday 30 December. Again, there was a great turn-out with many players past and present in attendance. Proceeds were donated to cancer research.

 

 

 

 

 

We would like to thank everyone for supporting these events, and well done to all involved with the arrangements and helping out.

 

We are now actively recruiting for our U7s girls and boys teams for 2018. Anyone born in 2011 who would like to join these teams please contact Denise Mullins on 086 1591268 (girls) and David O’Hanlon 087 7422646 (boys). Flyers will be in all local schools in early January for any child interested in playing Gaelic Football, Hurling or Camogie with details of all teams, mentors and contact details.
