CLUB NOTES

June 8 2020

I hope you are all well and looking forward to a welcome resumption of training and playing activity very soon.  With this in mind, please see the  GAA Press Release and Covid 19 Guidelines on a Safe Return to Gaelic Games.  I've also included a short update on our club development and some other matters.

Safe Return to Gaelic Games

The Guidelines set out a roadmap for a return to club activity in the coming months guided at all times by public health advice.  We of course have followed these guidelines from the start of this crisis, and will continue to do so.

The roadmap provides for all GAA pitches to open on 29th June (Phase 3).  All going well, training will recommence from then on for adult and juvenile teams, but in small groups only.

In the meantime, all GAA grounds including Glenaulin remain closed, and no games, or team or small group training is permitted on GAA facilitiies.  All clubrooms and dressing room facilities remain closed.  Covid 19 protocols related to training are to be developed in line with "Return to Play" requirements and medical advice.

I know we want to get back to playing activity as quickly as possible, but you will see there is much to do between now and 29 June.  This is something the club will consider in the coming days.

In the meantime, I suggest you read the document and familiarise yourselves with its contents.  There is much to consider for everyone connected with the club - parents, guardians, mentors, adult and juvenile players - with lots of responsibility involved.

Club Development

I am pleased to confirm that the Club has received planning permission from South Dublin County Council for the construction of a Ball Wall and associated works in Glenaulin.  Our thanks to the Development Committee who put a lot of hard work, time and effort into the preparation of the application.

The next step is to proceed with the internal works in the clubhouse, with a construction company appointed and waiting.   At this time, the Committee is awaiting some documents from Dublin GAA, which when received, will allow us to get a final approval on funds, and allow them to be drawn down.  Once funding is approved, a contract will be issued to the preferred contractor, and from that date, the works should be substantially complete within 3 – 4 months.  The works include a full repaint of the clubhouse, refurbishment of the dressing room showers, an external toilet, external storage, and remodelling of the large open plan area with the facility and equipment for a small gym.

Other matters

Though we are at somewhat of a standstill on the playing front, there is still plenty going on.  Our FaceBook page contains details of some events which may interest you including a GAA Coaching webinar series, and a call to participate in Ireland's Fittest Family !

We also held an online Quiz hosted by our chairman recently with almost 40 families participating.  We'll keep you posted on further events.

April 14 2020

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Fun Quiz on Friday evening. It was a very enjoyable event hosted by our chairman, Paul Murphy, who put in a huge effort to make sure everything ran smoothly. Our thanks to Paul for all his hard work.

So far, the Quiz has raised over €800 which will go to the local St Vincent de Paul.  The target is €1,000.  If you would like to make a donation, you can still do so at:  www.gofundme.com/st-patricks-gaa-club-fun-quiz

A reminder that the Clubhouse, including the gym, and pitch facilities remain closed.  We would ask all members to note that no training or matches are permitted under any circumstances.

Once again, St Patrick’s GAA urge all members and friends across the community to follow the HSE guidelines, and to look out for each other in the coming weeks.  We are a community club and will do what we can to assist where possible.   We have been in touch again with local representatives and a number of our members have volunteered and are helping out.

May 5 2020

Thanks to everyone who took part in the Dean Rock Run Against the Sun Challenge for Stewarts Care last Friday.  Almost sixty runners from the Club took part, all adhering to strict social distancing guidelines around Covid 19.  The run was scheduled over 12 hours, with participants allocated individual time slots throughout the day.

There was a phenomenal response to the fundraising effort, and you can still donate if you wish to do so by clicking on this link:

A special word of thanks to Darren Kinsella for taking the photographs which are on our FaceBook page, and to Keith Maher who put a huge effort into organising the event and making sure everything went to plan.

On other matters, you will be aware of the recent Government announcement on easing the Covid restrictions and for sports, including the GAA, the possibility of a resumption of training and playing again.  The Club will be guided by the GAA in this regard, and we anticipate that guidance will issue at some point.  We will be in touch with mentors then.

In the meantime, the clubhouse remains closed and all activity suspended.  Hopefully, it won't be too long but the most important thing at this time is for everyone to stay safe and continue following the guidelines.
